If you use this option, you will have to provide a 6-digits code or press the “approve” button to access your account. This 6-digits have a life-span of 30 seconds.

Setup

You will need your PC/ laptop and your smartphone to set this up.

If it’s the first time you activate the MFA, go directly to “Scan the QR code” as the steps below are a guide to change the sign-in method.

Go to your security info page: https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info

Click on “add method”.

Select "Authenticator app" and click on “ADD”

Note: For the phone option, this is what a pound key looks like.

Step 1: Install the Authenticator application on your smartphone.

Authenticator for android or go to the Google Play Store

Authenticator for Apple from the App Store

When the installation is done, launch the Authenticator app and select the “next” button

Step 2: Link the app to your account

On the PC, some information is provided on how to use the app. Click “next”.

A QR code is shown on your PC/ laptop screen as shown in the image below.

Launch the Authenticator app from your smartphone. Click on the 3 dots and select “add an account”. Select “work account” and Scan the QR code. Use the camera on your smartphone to scan the QR code. Most smartphones have as QR scanner built in. Focus on the QR code and it should display a link).

The app will provide a code.

Go back to the PC/ laptop

Select “next”

Open the notification and click on “approve “ on your smartphone or enter the 6 digits code provided by your smartphone on your computer

Click on “next” on your computer to finish.

You’re all set now.

Each time you access a new computer or when prompted, open the app and provide the 6 digits code or ‘approve’
